Jewelry Care Guide

Everyday Care

  • Put jewelry on last when getting ready — after lotion, perfume, hairspray, and makeup.
  • Remove jewelry before swimming (chlorine and salt water), bathing, exercising, cleaning, and sleeping.
  • Avoid contact with household chemicals, especially bleach and ammonia — they can permanently damage metals and stones.

Storage

  • Store each piece separately in a soft pouch or lined box to prevent scratching and tangling.
  • Keep sterling silver in an airtight bag with an anti-tarnish strip to slow tarnishing.
  • Store away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity.

Cleaning

  • Gold: soak briefly in warm water with a few drops of mild dish soap, brush gently with a soft toothbrush, rinse, and pat dry with a soft cloth.
  • Sterling silver: polish with a dedicated silver polishing cloth. For tarnish, use a silver-safe cleaner.
  • Gemstones and pearls: wipe with a slightly damp soft cloth only. Never soak pearls, opals, or turquoise; avoid ultrasonic cleaners for these stones.

Regular Checkups

Have items with stones inspected by a jeweler once a year — prongs and settings can loosen with everyday wear. Catching this early prevents lost stones.
